SMK3 Certification Elucidation
An organization’s commitment and obligation to implement an occupational safety and health management system that is integrated with the company’s management system protect workers and work partners against occupational health and safety risks following Law No. 13 of 2003 concerning Manpower.
The Occupational Safety and Health Management System (SMK3) is part of the company’s overall management system to control workers’ risks. This system is related to the international standard ISO 45001, which aims to manage occupational health and safety (K3) aspects in every work process in the workplace.
SMK3 Scope
SMK3 application is to create an occupational health and safety management system in the workplace by involving elements of management, workforce, working conditions, and environment that are integrated to prevent and reduce work-related accidents and diseases, as well as create a safe, efficient and productive workplace.
SMK3 Certification Process
- The audit is carried out using the SMK3 Audit Criteria (Permenaker PER.05/MEN/1996 Appendix II), K3 laws, and other K3 standards.
- Compliance or the final audit can be carried out after the organization receives an audit order referring to the Annual Audit Plan (RTA) if the audit is mandatory, or the organization can send an audit request letter to the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration with a copy to PT SUCOFINDO (Persero), or the note can be given directly to PT SUCOFINDO (Persero) if the audit request is voluntary.
- The Diagnostic Assessment is the same as the first stage audit in the certification audit scheme.
- Issuance of certificates issued by the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration and given simultaneously at the K3 ceremonial event. Organizations may request reference letters or copies of certificates after the audit has been carried out or before the original OHSMS certificate is received.
