In the interest of environmental sustainability in the future, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry requires the industrial sector to periodically monitor the quality of wastewater and ensure that industrial wastewater quality consistently meets environmental quality standards. Sparing is an online and real-time water quality monitoring system using integrated sensor units with data loggers, data transmission, and a database system for monitoring data management. On the other hand, Onlimo is an online and real-time water quality monitoring system using integrated sensor units with data loggers, data transmission, and a database system for monitoring data management.

Distinguishing Sparing and Onlimo
So, what sets them apart? Onlimo has specific requirements regarding monitoring locations according to predetermined criteria. Meanwhile, Sparing must be implemented for 11 industries according to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 93 of 2018. In terms of parameters, Onlimo has 11 parameters to be measured, while Sparing has different parameters depending on the industry being monitored. They also differ in terms of monitoring focus. While Onlimo focuses on monitoring water quality in rivers, lakes, and seas, Sparing is specifically designed to monitor the quality of wastewater in industries. Despite these differences, they still share similarities, such as using the same main equipment components.
Although different, both Sparing and Onlimo have their respective benefits. Sparing can function as an Early Warning System with a web-based monitoring platform and mobile apps that can display real-time and accurate information, allowing preventive action to be taken before exceeding the Quality Standard. On the other hand, Onlimo can help obtain real-time water quality data and identify trends in water quality changes quickly. Additionally, Onlimo can serve as an early warning system in the event of pollution, reducing costs and time in sample collection and laboratory analysis.
