What is Greenhouse Gas Validation and Verification?
Hello SCI friends, nowadays we hear a lot of news and invitations about saving energy and knowledge about global warming. You must already know what a Greenhouse is and its purpose. But did you know about Greenhouse Gases? Do Greenhouse Gases need to be validated and verified? Let’s review together!

If a greenhouse is a building whose walls and roof are made of glass to capture the sun’s heat, which will be used at night to keep the temperature inside the building warm, it will result in a greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is the heat from the sun trapped in the earth’s atmosphere and causes the earth’s temperature to warm. Then the gases in the atmosphere that capture the sun’s heat are called Greenhouse Gases (GHG). These gases are Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Nitrogen Dioxide (N2O), Methane (CH4), and Freon (SF6, HFC, and PFC).
GHG can be generated from daily activities that we do, such as the use of electrical energy, the use of motorized vehicles, and also leaving food to rot can emit methane gas, SCI friends. By controlling gas emissions which have increased drastically since the 1950s, Indonesia has begun to move to reduce gas emissions by encouraging Indonesian companies to declare a net zero target. The government, with its capabilities, is targeting a 29% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and 41% with international support by 2030 starting from 2021.
In order to support and succeed in this target, the company must fulfill the validation and verification of greenhouse gases following the ISO 14065 standard. The ISO 14065 Greenhouse Gas Validation and Verification Management System provides several tools to develop programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for industrial companies and governments. The system also helps companies operate according to emissions trading schemes. In this system, there are three standard parts of calculation and verification, namely:
– Relates to specific conditions for organizational design and development or availability of greenhouse gas inventories.
– Discusses the details of determining the level, monitoring, and reporting of emission reduction and elimination of greenhouse gas projects.
– Describes conditions and recommendations for approving and controlling greenhouse gas information.
Greenhouse Gas Validation and Verification, of course, have several benefits. This report can be used for the company’s annual report, branding to customers, declaration of emission reduction achievements to the public, to compliance with reporting requirements in Indonesian government regulations or investors.
