SUCOFINDO – N. Sumatra Environmental and Forestry Office Hold Greenhouse Gas Accounting Talk Show

MEDAN (17/10) – PT SUCOFINDO has encouraged businesspeople in North Sumatra to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through a talkshow on greenhouse gases (GHG), held in collaboration with the North Sumatra Provincial Office of the Environment. This measure aligns with PT SUCOFINDO’s role as a Validation and Verification Agency (LVV) authorized to validate and verify the GHG and Carbon Pricing scheme.

Hari Wibowo, Director of Greenhouse Gas Accounting and Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification at the Ministry of the Environment and Forestry, who was a speaker at the talk show, underscored that strategic collaboration is required to mitigate climate change.

“Realizing emission reduction requires collaboration with all parties, from the regulators to the implementers, so efforts are made to achieve emission reduction and targets can be reached together,” Hari Wibowo said during the GHG Accounting session of the talk show.

On that occasion, Budi Utomo, Director of Industrial Services of PT SUCOFINDO, pointed out that the talk show is in line with SUCOFINDO’s commitment to its role as LVV, adding that the company has reaffirmed it by implementing a management system based on Indonesian National Standard (SNI) ISO 14064 on Carbon Footprint Verification.

“This event serves as a platform for sharing information on implementing management systems as we progress towards a green industry. Businesspeople are expected to kindle the spirit of innovation to create environmentally sound business processes to achieve Indonesia’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target. With active participation in green actions, businesspeople can also take an opportunity to get involved in carbon trading,” Budi Utomo said.

Budi Utomo also expressed hope that the talk show can raise awareness about the importance of businesspeople’s roles in implementing mitigation and adaptiveness in addressing climate change to ultimately achieve the NDC target.

To support businesspeople in implementing climate change mitigation, PT SUCOFINDO can assist them in validating and verifying the GHG and Carbon Pricing scheme with its role as LVV. “We can help companies through consultation, validation, and verification of GHG accounting and carbon pricing, which is also a crucial instrument in climate change mitigation efforts,” Budi Utomo said.

In the meantime, Lilik Muchariadi, Head of PT SUCOFINDO Medan Branch, stated that the Medan Branch participated in the North Sumatra Provincial Office of the Environment and Forestry’s Climate Village Program (Proklim) to support emission reduction in the province.

“We hope that SUCOFINDO Medan Branch can continue to collaborate with the government, particularly the Environment Office, in green actions related to climate change mitigation programs,” Lilik said.

In an effort to mitigate climate change, PT SUCOFINDO also provides services for automated environmental monitoring and management, land and other thematic mappings, environmental audit, and ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance) improvement and consultation. In addition, there are services to support sustainable and green mining, green smelters, sustainable procurement, green offices, green buildings, green ports, New and Renewable Energy (NRE) consultancy, green project management, green industries, GGL (Green Gold Label) certification, and CCS (Carbon Capture Storage)/CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage).
