House to oversee tender for new electronic ID system

House of Representatives Commission II has announced plans to form a monitoring team to oversee a tender for the provision and management of a new electronic ID card system, with a budget allocation of up to Rp 6.3 trillion (US$730.8 million) .“There was a suspected violation in the tender process,” commission deputy speaker Ganjar Pranowo said Wednesday as quoted by Antara state newswire.

Ganjar added that he had heard only rumors of the violation.

Three items were included in the tender: the Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), the network, and electronic ID cards use microchips.

The winning bid for the AFIS system was tendered by the State Printing Company Consortium (PNRI), which is composed of PT Sucofindo, PT Sandhipala Arthapur, PT Len Industri and PT Quadra Solution.

The consortium won against PT Astra Graphia by offering a price of Rp 5.9 trillion, against Astra Graphia’s Rp 6 trillion.

The winning bid for the electronic ID card network was tendered by Indosat.
