State-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero) and state-owned surveying company PT Sucofindo have signed a memorandum of understanding to synergize their efforts to increase national energy security and energy-sector competitiveness. According to Pertamina president director Dwi Soetjipto, the aim is to develop inspection and certification systems to improve Pertamina's operational efficiency across the board: upstream, midstream and downstream.

"Because Pertamina wants to enhance its growth and capability as an energy player, it should be in collaboration with the fields of inspections, examination, certification, consulting and training," said Dwi at the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry in Jakarta on Thursday.

The memorandum of understanding he added, was expected to improve operating performance, cost efficiency and optimization of assets and resources at the company.

He further explained that the SOEs have long been collaborating to improve Pertamina's efficiency. From 2012 to 2015, Rp 1.1 trillion (US$81.08 million) was disbursed in relation to the cooperation. "With the expansion of the cooperation, we expect that value will increase by Rp 200 billion a year," Dwi said.

Sucofindo president director Bachder Johan Buddin said that his company was ready to support Pertamina’s competitiveness, including by assisting with gas and other fuels’ distribution monitoring services, asset reliability inspections and installations and independent examinations. "The result of our surveys, assessments and examinations are used to maintain and improve our clients’ performances," said Bachder.

As an inspector and independent auditor, he added, "We can help Pertamina by assessing tools and installations reliability. Out work system complies with international standards and is accredited to ISO 17020," Bachder said. (bbn)(+)
