Mineral entrepreneurs responded to the issuance of economic policy package including export easing with diverse opinions. They believed the easing on mineral exports is insufficient as long as the 20% export duties still apply. On the other hand, the economic policy package especially concerning the easing on mineral exports is still waiting for legal basis in form of a decree from the Ministry of Economy. As planned, the relaxation on mineral exports will only valid until January 12, 2014.
Indonesian Mineral Entrepreneurs Association (Apemindo) Ladjiman Damanik said the government should review the regulation as it cannot necessarily increase the volume of exports.
Despite loosening quotas, the export duty at 20% is still considered too high. “The government should focus on reducing the export duty rather than loosening quotas,” he said, Monday (8/26). (msw)
