A total of 15 companies that filed a business permit on the utilization of timber in industrial forests (IUPHHK-HTI) has rejected by the Government as they had been indicated on data manipulation. Those companies has manipulated the data by put the primary natural forest areas and peat lands into their concession areas.

Based on data from the Ministry of Forestry, 15 companies which have filed the permit for their concession areas totaling 519,490 hectares, put 236,525 ha of land on their concession. The lands are including in the indicative permit delay map area (PIPPIB) mandated by Presidential Instruction No.10/2011 and extended through Presidential Instruction No.13/2013 about a moratorium on new permit utilization for primary natural forest and peat land.

Almost all companies which have been filing their permissions were denied by the government because the proposed areas are overlapping with the primary natural forests or peat lands. The decision to reject those permits was made in the period May 2011-May 2013.

General Director of Forestry Enterprises at Ministry of Forestry Bambang Hendroyono said new permit applications are mostly rejected as the government has announced the moratorium. (msw)
