Mineral Ore Export Increases by 19.7%, amid Provision to Build Smelter

Amid the obligation to build smelter in 2014, ore exports grew by 19.7% during the first quarter of 2013.In fact, the government has limited the exports of mineral products through Ministry Decree No. 7/2012, which was revised into the Ministry Decree No. 11/2012. The decree clearly stated that entrepreneurs are able to carry out exports if they have meet several requirements, i.e. must be clean and clear, build purification facility both by itself and jointly, and mining company also must have export approval letter (SPE).
Director of Mineral Business Development at Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Dede Ida Suhendra said this increase was an impact from the revision of Ministry No. 7/2012 on exports limitation. The revision was regulated into the Ministry Decree No. 11/2012, which is exempting the exports of ore company under certain requirements.
“They are allowed to conduct exports but it must be managed and meet several criteria, including signing a pact of not importing raw product in 2014,” he told Bisnis, Sunday (4/28). (msw)
