Indonesian Internet User Penetration to Reach 30% in 2013

Indonesian Internet Service Provider Association (APJII) projected the internet user penetration growth to reach 30% or 82 million people compared to only 63 million people this year.APJII Chairman Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan said the Indonesian internet user penetration is increasing every year, making the developing country’s Internet user penetration from Broadband Commission International Telecommunication Union (ITU) reached 50%.

"Currently, Indonesia internet user penetration reached 24.3%. By 2013 we project the growth of up to 82 million users, 2014 by some 107 million users, and some 139 million users in 2015," he said, Wednesday (12/12)

The target, Semuel continued, can be achieved through technological development transformation in Indonesia. In 2013, Semuel predicted that the used penetration growth is triggered by the transision to 4G with Wimax and LTE and fiber optics development across Indonesia.

In addition, Semuel also revealed several developing issues in Indonesian internet in 2013 in addition to internet access, including increased content and application, e-commerce, and data centers business. Not to mention the network security and privacy issue, freedom of expression, as well as the migration from IPv4 to IPv6 are also projected to emerge in 2013. (T07/TW)
