15 Palm oil companies to get ISPO Certificate

The government targeted at least 15 palm oil companies attained Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) Certificate in the end of this year.Deputy Minister of Agriculture Rusman Heriawan said ISPO certificate confirmed Indonesia’s commitment as the highest palm oil (CPO) manufacturer in the world who concern about environmental sustainability.
“It showed we concern about environment al issues. We are planning to launch 15 or 20 companies at the end of this year, “ he told after opening Workshop on Sustainable Palm Oil Related to Green House Emission in Jakarta, Tuesday (10/23/2012).
ISPO certificate is more sought for smallholders’ farmer than big companies because farmers require more technical guidance.
The government also targeted the entire CPO industry totaling 600 companies have applied ISPO certification by the end of 2014 so in the next year 100% industry has certified.
Directorate General of Estate Crops at Ministry of Agriculture Rismansyah Danasaputra said seven companies are conducting certification process, one of them is PT Musim Mas Medan-based palm oil company. (t08/tw)
