Increase Work Productivity And Competitiveness Through Implementation of OSH Management System

The implementation of SMK3 in Indonesia is strengthened with the issuance of of PP. 50/2012Since the enactment of the Government Regulation namely PP No.50/2012 last April by the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, the company seeks to meet the requirements of the regulation. PP No. 50/2012 concerning the implementation of OSH Management System (SMK3) is the application of Article 87 of Law No.13/2003 on Manpower.

"The Government issued PP No. 50/2012 in order to accelerate the implementation of SMK3 in Indonesia," said the President Director of PT Sucofindo, Arief Safari on the opening of One Day Seminar on Optimizing The Implementation of SMK3 through PP No.50/2012 organized by PT Sucofindo in Jakarta (13/09). The seminar, which was attended by 260 participants was held to answer questions and needs of companies and practitioners regarding policy, gap analysis and migration to SMK3 requirements.

Permenaker No.05/MEN/1996 is the regulation that currently is used in the implementation of SMK3. "Sucofindo has been contacted by companies asking for explanations of the gap analysis and migration of Permenaker No.05/MEN/1996 to PP No.50/2012. We support the government and are ready to assist the company in meeting the requirements of SMK3 in PP, "said Triyan Aidil Fitri, Head of Operations 2, SBU Sucofindo ICS during the seminar discussions.

Government has setting up target that by 2015 all companies in Indonesia have implemented SMK3. Currently, there are 1.548 companies that has received SMK3 certification. Companies that have implemented SMK3 are given one (1) year of transition period since the issuance of PP. While the company who will implement SMK3 should use PP No.50/2012 as the reference instead of Permenaker No.05/1996.
Effective and efficient implementation of SMK3 will bring benefit to the company. The reduction of workplace accidents, controllable risk incidents that could result in loss of property, such as fire and explosions, and the increase of worker productivity due to workplace health promotion program are the benefits derived from effective implementation. Consistency and continuous improvement would also enhance the competitiveness of the company in the facing domestic and international markets. (oth)
