Certified sustainable palm oil jumps 66%

Certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) this year will increase 4 million tons or jump 66.66%, thus the production will be boosted for export.Vice Minister of Trade Bayu Krisnamurthi said Indonesia CSPO production, a certification issued by Roundtable on Sustainable Palm (RSPO) this year as much as 6 million tons. However, the products are still prioritized for domestic market.
“We hope these will not be only sold in Indonesia, but also in international market,” he said in the sidelines of a launching of new cooking oil, Ecoplanet in Carrefour, Jakarta (16/7/2012)
RSPO is a non-profit international association established in 2004 and unites all stakeholders from palm oil industry which aimed at developing and implementing global standard for certified sustainable palm oil production (CSPO).
Indonesia Palm Oil Association (Gapki) has officially bowed out from RSPO membership on September 29, 2011, but the association still allows its members to join the international institution.
RSPO has introduced a trade mark, RSPO, to palm oil market since a year ago. Until now, there are 61 licenses for RSPO trade mark, issued in 13 countries.
The markets for CSPO are RSPO members such as UK, Malaysia, Germany, France, Netherlands, US, Singapore, Switzerland, Belgium. During this time, the CPO export from Indonesia always faced negative campaign charging Indonesian palm oil has neglected environmental aspects.(T03/aph)
