Indonesia has the potential to become a main player in the information technology field soon owing to its huge market, an information technology observer said."Right now Indonesia is among the top ten destinations of world information technology companies according to the results of IT destination survey thanks to its huge market," Rudy Suryanto of Muhammadiyah University in Yogyakarta (UMY) said here on Sunday.
He said information technology has been growing rapidly including mobility-based technology. "It is likely table PC and smartphone will take over the role of PC, laptop, and netbook in the not-so-distant future. To groom graduates capable of mastering the rapidly-growing information technology, Muhammadiyah University in Yogyakarta is cooperating with the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) in India."
NIIT is an information technology training provider which is operating in more than 40 countries. The institute has so far produced an estimated 20 million graduates.
"UMY and NIIT are planning to organize a number of training programs including web design, English for work and software engineering." According to him, UMY and NIIT believed that the proper strategy to produce graduates that met market qualifications was providing students with information technology capability and softskills.
