Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo has called for the oil-to-gas conversion program to be implemented as soon as possible in order to clamp down on the country’s fuel subsidy. He said that the conversion program would not only help ease the country’s economic strains, especially given the ever-increasing oil price, but would also be beneficial to consumers.
“The members of public who are not usually prudent will start making some savings. This is good for the fiscal state,” he said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
Agus added that he was currently waiting for the ratification of a revised presidential decree on the restriction of subsidized fuel, which he said would provide much-needed certainty for relevant economic players, including fuel station managements.
Regardless of what the decree might entail, the government would continue to provide sufficient supply of the non-subsidized Pertamax gasoline for consumers, he said. (awd)
