Vice President: Agriculture Performance Stagnant
Vice President Boediono has mentioned the stagnant performance of the agricultural sector. “Some years saw increasing productivity such as 2009, but, the trend is now stagnant,” said the vice president at the Agriculture Ministry office on Wednesday.
Boediono said that between 1970s and 1990s, the agricultural sector recorded an increase in productivity of 2.4 percent. However, in mid 1990s to 2001, the figure declined by 0.6 percent. Since then, according to Boediono, productivity has been stagnant.
The vice president requested the Agriculture Ministry to reverse the productivity trend to an upward direction because the government has been quite supportive towards the effort to increase productivity—budget for the effort keeps increasing every year. In 2009, budget set for the agricultural sector was only IDR 8.2 trillion. This year, the amount has expanded to IDR 17.8 trillion.
